Every third-party price is cited. Figures attributed to a source link to the page we read and show the date we accessed it.
Estimates are labeled. Some tables on the site, such as the per-material ranges on state and city pages, the city cost factors and the calculator rates, are SidingCostEstimate editorial estimates. They are scaled from national ranges and are not survey data, and they are labeled as estimates wherever they appear.
We show the spread. Cost guides measure different things: some include tear-off, trim and soffit, and others price only the siding. Where sources disagree we show each figure side by side rather than averaging them into a number no one published.
No paid placement. We do not rank or endorse individual contractors, and no contractor pays to appear on this site.
Sources we use
Our cost guides currently cite these publications:
Each publisher explains its own data sources, such as homeowner and member surveys, contractor estimating databases or regional cost data, on its own page. Follow the links above for details. Where a source gives no publication date, we list it as n.d.
Update schedule
Quarterly review: we re-check the sources behind each cost guide at least once a quarter and update figures when a source changes.
Annual refresh: each year's guides are refreshed when major annual datasets are released. For example, the Cost vs. Value Report usually publishes in the fall.
Page dates: each page shows a "last updated" date, and our sitemap reports the date its content last changed.
Limitations
National and metro averages cannot account for your home's height, complexity, condition or local permit rules. Use our numbers to plan, then rely on written, itemized quotes from licensed local contractors. See how to get siding estimates.
Corrections
If you spot a figure that no longer matches its source, tell us and we will review it at the next update.
